Book Marketing Channels:
Book Fairs, Bookstores and Libraries
Once your publisher has finished publishing your book the next step is to move it through the book marketing channels such as book fairs, bookstores and libraries. A typical book sales channel usually involves these basic processes within most book publishing companies:
- Book publishers publish the book.
- The publishing company’s sales force presents the book to buyers at various booksellers.*
- The booksellers sell the books to consumer.
* (Publishers usually don’t market your books to libraries. In addition to helping you with thebook marketing channels such as book fairs, I can help you with your library marketing… contact me if you are interested in marketing your book to over 143,000 libraries in the United States.)
Don’t let your book languish in the bookstores
You must take an active role in seeking out the book marketing channels like book fairs. A book sheet, which is a one-pager describing your book, is a cost effective tool to help you make the connection. Take your book, copies of your book sheet and other book promotional materials to the book fairs. Send your book sheet to the libraries. These are both excellent ways to gain exposure.
The largest book fair in the country is BookExpo America (BEA)
A not-to-be-missed feature of BookExpo America is the New Title Showcase. The BEA’s New Title Showcase features shelf upon shelf of new titles being debuted for the first time and yours could be one of them! Contact BEA early in the year for the best chance of being part of the Showcase.
Your book sheet: the first point of contact in book marketing channels such as book fairs
The book sheet I will help you create can be used to contact BEA and other book fairs across the nation. Once your book sheet is completed, it will serve as your first point of contact with the book fairs and additional marketing channels. A cost-effective solution for marketing your book to the various book channels is email.
